The Bragança Palace of the Dukes of Guimarães was built in the XV century by Afonso (illegitimate son of the King João I and Inês Pires Esteves), first Duke of Bragança House and eight Count of Barcelos, for time of his second marriage with Constança of Noronha.

Inhabited during the XIX century, witnessed in the following centuries to a progressive abandonment and consequent ruin, motivated by political and economic factors, it was aggravating to the XX century. Between 1937 and 1959 it took place in a broad and complex intervention of reconstruction, performed from a project of the Architect Rogério de Azevedo.

In parallel, we proceeded to the acquisition of the current filling, composed of dated pieces of art, mainly from the XVII and XVIII centuries. Elevated to national monument since 1910, the Bragança Palace of Dukes of Guimarães is now a dependent service of the DRCN and integrates the Museum (first floor), a wing designed to the PR (main façade, second floor) and a large area dedicated to various cultural initiatives (ground floor).
