Castle of Santa Maria da Feira
Castelo de Santa Maria da Feira
The Castle of Santa Maria da Feira is one of the most remarkable Portuguese monuments in the way how reflects the diversity of defensive resources used between the XI and XVI centuries.
In addition to its military importance, it should take into account their political and cultural dimension, since it was essential for the victory of São Mamede, in 1128, when the mayor of this castle, Pêro Gonçalves Marnel, took advantage of King Afonso Henriques against Teresa and Count de Trava.
Recently, the Vigilance Commission of Santa Maria da Feira Castle, in partnership with IGESPAR developed a Project of Conservation and Renovation of the Castle of Santa Maria da Feira, highlighting the works of conservation and restoration of the Chapel and the Main Tower, for use at conferences, meetings, musicals, exhibitions and other events.
